Director M D Sridhar is all set to remake the Telugu flick Happy Days in Kannada as Jolly Days
Films on students and college life seem to be catching up well with directors in Kannada. This time director M D Sridhar, who had directed his previous hit film Krishna, is all set remake the Telugu flick Happy Days in Kannada as Jolly Days.
Happy remake
With remake policy being made easier, director Sridhar brings-in Telugu film in Kannada. “The producer of the original Telugu flick Happy Days was in look out for a director to remake it in Kannada. Looking at my previous work in the film Krishna, the producer agreed to go ahead with the same project. When I agreed to remake it in Kannada the problem of selecting star cast was a big problem. I didn’t wanted to rope-in any stars for the film. So, I was left in the middle of the sea to select new comers who could contribute their best of the performance on the screen,” says director M D Sridhar.
Jolly guys
The list of star cast in the film goes a long way. Pradeep kumar, Vishwas, Praveen, Niranjan, Rahul, Raghavendra, Aishwarya, Ruthuva, Spoorthi, Keethi and Archana are all doing a lead role in the film. “For actress Aishwarya this is the second film. Except her all the rest of the star cast of the film are debutants. I have high hopes that definitely Kannada version will do much better than the original one. Happy Days in Telugu went on breaking all the records in the box office. The story takes place in college. So, we’ll approach reputed colleges in the city to gives us an opportunity to complete the movie in one schedule. I will be making lot of changes in the storyline keeping in mind the nativity of local audience,” says Sridhar.

Director M D Shridhar has plans to release the movie in October. Along with keeping himself busy in the project, he has already signed one more film for this year with actor Darshan. “Everything is finalised. Darshan has agreed to work with me for his next film. This time I’m taking up an action film. Payments are already made. And I will start shooting this from November onwards. I’m awaiting for the release of Jolly Days,” says the director.

For the first time in southern cinema, a movie on Cyber Crime will be directed by debutant Balaji
In the lines of success of suspense movies in southern movies, debutant Kannada director Balaji is all set to direct a movie on Cyber Crime which has been titled as Tantra.
Kalyug Tantra
The idea of directing a movie on cyber crime was all started when director Balaji watched hindi movie Kalyug and was inspired. “Though the movie didn’t do well in the box office. Yet the movie brought out awareness among the people that such incidents of cyber crime do happen without the notice of anyone. When I thought of attempting to direct a film like Kalyug with different approach I landed up with my film Tantra. It’s not about magic or black magic,” says director Balaji.
Cop help
Actress Sushma makes her debut in the movie. “I have carefully selected the star cast keeping in mind that their career should not be compromised. And for the surprise of the audience, former police cop Girish Mattannanavar will also be doing a major role in the film. I have also taken support of cyber police in the city and from intelligence sleuths to prepare the script for Tantra. We have plans to start shooting from September last week,” says Balaji.

Former PSI Girsh Mattannavar has done quite films in the past. “In the film Tantra, Girish Mattannavar will be doing a role of a detective. He suits to the character. Moreover, his previous profession will add more strength to this performance on the screen. He was a great asset in showing us the way of writing script which keeps suspense as well as some action also. All through the way he helped us in meeting important officials to know more about cyber crime,” says director Balaji.

With Vijay Raghavendra seeing a success with his latest comedy flick Matte Ganesha Banda directed by Phani Ramachandra, the actor is all set to act with Komal and Diganth in the film Mast Maja Madi to be directed by debutant Vijay Kumar.

Director Vijay Kumar who has managed to rope-in the three actors for the film is confidant that he can successfully push his product in the competitive market. “I took almost one year to prepare the script. I’m just saying this to prove a point that Vijay had signed this film much before Matte Ganesha Banda. So, both the films are different in their own way. As the title itself says that the film is full of enjoyment and comedy for audience of different ages,” says director Vijay Kumar. On the rumors, whether the film doesn’t features any heroines, the director says, “No not at all. My direction will be ruined if I don’t take any actress for the film. Apart from the three actors, Nag Kiran is also doing a major role in the film.

It seems bollywood seems to have woken up to Malayalam language as their next potential to explore audience and new genre of films. Planman Motion Pictures headed by Arindham Choudhary is all set to remake its first English flick The Last Lear in Malayalam directed by well-known Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh.

The Last Lear starring Amitabh Bhachan, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal in lead roles, will be released worldwide on September 5th. “The movie will be going to be all time classic in Indian Cinema. The movie is an amalgamation of legends of Indian Cinema like Amitabh Bachan and director Rituparno Ghosh. For the first time they have come together to work in an English film. Director Ghosh who has worked with almost all the superstars in bollywood is quite happy that at last he worked with Big B. He took almost three years to prepare a script like The Last Lear, which was screened at various prestigious international film festivals. The Last Lear is a lone movie to get a Best Film Award in Canada Film Festival. Even though the movie stars Indian actors it didn’t fall of from the expectations of audience,” says producer Arindham Choudhary.
Remake in Malayalam
The Last Lear is a completely shot in English, which speaks of an ageing actor who was forced to act on the stage and on the films ignoring his likes. “The movie is powerful in all of its terms. And if we exhibit the movie in any part of India, I think it would do well. Ghosh is very much considerable with Malayalam cinema. We both thinking of remaking the film in Malayalam for the southern audience. Going by the content of this film, I think audience in Malayalam would definitely like it much better than Hindi speaking region. The movie has lot of drama and emotions in it,” says producer Arindham Choudhary.

I don’t know from where all these rumours have started. I’m not commenting against it. But when they say I look like Trisha then they must also be expecting me to perform like her in movies also. I’m bit worried whether my poor performance in films will bring a bad remark to Trisha. I have taken it lightly. There’s nothing to worry about it,” says the actress. Suhasi also makes her debut in Kannada with film Haage Summane directed by Preetam Gubbi. “Shooting part of Hage Summane has been completed. I was in Bangalore just a week back when we were shooting song for the movie. Director Preetham is a most intelligent and sensible director I have ever seen and worked with. He is like an artist handling direction and filmmaking. For each and every scene he would draw a cartoon or caricature where exactly camera needs to be placed and how the scene has to be shot. At the same time we are all waiting for the first print. Personally, I’m very much excited about my performance in the movie.

Don't Stop Untill You Reach The Goal

What happens to the writings of a reporter when his/her chief shares a bad relationship with him. Probably i think his/her writings might meet the dust bin at the end. So, is it necessary for a reporter to carrry a good relationship with his/her chief unless if they share a common and good relationship. Fake profession is a new boom in the industry as more work pressure has turned the honest reporters and subs to give a false proof of their presence at the assignment venue. Though it is an imposssible task for a reporter to manage his strength without getting tired to attend the assignment yet sometimes it pushes him to an extent to inform his colleagues or chief that he has covered the assignement in a neat way and will bring it sooner or later or even some other time. The reporter cannot be blamed for this because of his inefficiency to attend the assignement but his strength and mental presence doesn't allows him to be present to cover the assignement. So, what are the reasons that motivates him to follow dishonesty with the working organisation. Here are some of the facts mentioned by senior and junior reporters working in various media units:-

In television media giving a fake proof will ruin the channel as the fixed assignement has to be covered no matter what may come. The channel is dependent more on giving flashing news rather than stale news, so, a reporter working in electronic media will have more pressure to cover the assignemnt no matter of time and venue.

In print media a reporter if he is working in headquarters like in Bangalore has all chances to escape from the daily assignment as sometimes the venue is not accessible to cover at the earliest time or could be far from the head office. Here, the reporter will take this as an opportunity to bring a fake reporting by copying other reporters' write-ups who works for other organization


2. The chief of reporting should take care of all the assignemnt duly circulated among the honest reporters to keep an account of the regular reportage of events happening in the city

‘I’m not jealous over the Mungaru Male weave in the Kannada film industry because their hard efforts have yielded good result and as an actor I should appreciate its success’ – Darshan, Actor

His father was a well-known supporting actor in the Kannada Film Industry with sharing roles in more than hundreds of films with late Dr Rajkumar, Togudeepa Srinivas is still referred as an example on performing perfect bad roles. His son Darshan Togudeepa didn’t choose performing bad roles but embarked upon stepping into Kannada film industry with Cinematography and landed-up in the end as the ‘Challenging Star’.

1. Known as an established actor in the Kannada film industry how do you see your growth till to this day?

I should remember my father for whatever I am today. He was the one who brought energy in me to jump into this field to find a space of mine. Initially when I entered into Kannada film industry I preferred to choose cinematography and continued till someone told me to try with acting. So, here I am today earning good trust among the producers as a ‘Trusted Actor’ to get their investment back. But still there is lot to be learnt in the industry everyday because new projects are posed with new challenges and new challenges requires extra skills.

2. Your career in the Kannada film industry began with playing a baddy-cum-heroic role in ‘Majestic’ but still you are continuing with the same sort of roles, r u not looking for a change?

Of course every actor hops for a variety of new roles so am I. When I performed ‘Majestic’ I never made an oath that in the future also I would do films on violence. But as the time pass by my fan base started liking me more in blood and gory roles than in artistic movies. In between then to remove this tag from me I performed complete love story movies. ‘Namma Preethiya Ramu’ got rave reviews from film critics and appreciated me for performing the role with perfection. Projects which came after were action oriented. As an actor I have a very limited space to express my individual opinion so the producer will have the last word. I don’t have regrets in my career for performing these roles but there is satisfaction that I have done justice to the roles in my own way.

3. Togudeepa Productions was a dream of your father and you made it become true by ‘Jothe Jotheyali’ running into hundred days. So have you reached the right target?

Togudeepa Productions was my father’s dream. When he was alive he never
conversed his dream with us but had informed my mother that he will certainly do it in his lifetime if time allows him to do so. He couldn’t start the production and died before realizing it. But my mother took his responsibility to make it happen. When we, with the entire Togudeepa family, realized that only production of a film will not work with it but bringing forth some quality movies will definitely work with the audience. Then my brother (Dinakar) came out with ‘Jothey Jotheyali’ which broke all the musical records at all the music stalls. Till now we have not planned of what type of movies will be produced under my banner. Yet, we have put lot of hard work into it and will definitely expect good result at the end of the day.

4. Anaji Nagaraj seems to be sharing a good rapport with the family. He has been handling cinematography in all of your movies. Why this special bonding?

Anaji has stood with the family when we were (family) facing financial crisis. After the death of my father only few people in the industry stood behind us to get all of our losses back. And Anaji Nagaraj is one among them who with his strength and capacity did his contribution to the family. I remember all those names who really played their roles well without selfishness like family members to get rid of the family problems. So, if they come to me for performing a free role for them then I would do it at any point of time.

5. Why don’t you give a try in direction? Actors like Sudeep, Ramesh are turning towards direction. When will you direct a movie?

My entry into the Kannada industry was accidental but my providence was well written by God so I was given a chance to prove on the screen. But I’m not sure whether audience would not even dare to see films directed by me (laughs). I consider myself as new to this world of direction. Untill I perform better in acting till then it would be a foolish decision if I venture into direction. If others had jumped into direction then it would be merely of aping others profession than understanding my capacities and strengths. I don’t think I can prove myself in direction. So, better let me be in acting than standing behind a camera and directing film crew to dance into my tunes.

6. Don’t you think the success of Mungaru Male and Kariya have taken senior actors in the Kannada industry to back seats?

It is true that the two films have really brought a new wave in the industry by showing that even with a small budget and good story line a movie starring small screen star cast can run in theatres for 25 weeks. Sometimes a small time luck also plays a pivotal role which is not in our hands. If you imagine myself playing a lead role in these movies might have flopped in theatres. So, understanding a chemistry to run films for hundred days isn’t an easy task. I’m not bothered of movies breaking new histories in theatres but rather on the content which is more important than the success of a movie.

7. Is it true that profits made under the banner of ‘Togudeepa Productions’ will go for social work purposes?

Yes, my mother (Meena Toogudeepa) feels that some amount of profit should go for social work purposes because when you are living in a society you should sometimes think of doing well for others. My family has been doing this since we are attached with the industry. My father when he was alive used to visit orphanages to distribute sweets and clothes to orphan boys and girls. Even now the same tradition is being continued in our family to make ourselves better humans. It is viewers money so the profit earned through them should go back to them in whatsoever means it is possible.

8. You have been offered of playing lead roles in Telugu and Tamil films yet you seem to be hesitant. Why?

I don’t see any necessity in starring in Telugu and Tamil films. It is true that many directors from other regional industries approached me for working with them. But my conscious didn’t allowed to me to sign with their projects. I’m concerned more of working with the local language than making in regional languages. I have been born and brought up in Karnataka and I will continue to do so no matter what happens with my career. The people of Karnataka have given me a place in their hearts and I don’t want to loose it at any cost.

Simpe Steps For Investigatvie Journalist

One of my close friend who works for a Kannada channel in Hubli as a reporter called me up the other day to discuss on his intention to carry out an investigative sting operation with a subject. To give him a suggestion on following strict terms and regulations while carrying out a sting operation came to my mind but i give it a thought before delivering it to him. Every reporter of working in various media should never reveal his intention of conducting investigative operation to anyone. No matter what how close his friends are yet the discussion on the subject must go on like everyday and should not be stopped in between just because of the bondage between the other.

Before jumping into investigative operations one should be careful enough to find out the consequences after performing it. If any of the element in the whole process gets stucked in the middle the reporter will face a severe punishment from accused or from the publication. A thorough preparation before launching his investigation in disguise should be done so that the secre remains with him. While in initial stages a reporter should inform his higher authorities of his proposed project and the objective of doing it. Because without the permission of the publication his/her artilces might find a place in the dustbin. So, in the first hand held a discussion with the senior staff of your publication whether such investigations could be done to give a justice to it. If no journalists had done any investigative reports on the same topic before then its a clear green signal for you to go ahead with the selected subject. If you find similar write-ups then refer them for extraction of information for your article base.

Layatharanga consisting of young Karnatic percussionists have raised their heads above the layer of senior artists by popularizing the native music at international venues

The first ever Solo Indian team to perform at Krakow Percussion International Festival, Poland, which was held May in 2007 was none other than our very own ‘Bangalore Boys Band’ called Layatharanga. The troupe consisting of percussionist artists came out with flying colours in Krakow by bringing in new set of tunes in Karnatic music to audience who were present at the Music Festival. The artists of percussion in Layatharanga are supported by their rich traditional music backgrounds from their family heritage. Their fathers are one way or the other have contributed masterity to the empire called Karnatic music. Jayachandra Rao, the Mridangam artist in the band of Layatharanga has a background of playing in well-known music platforms held at Europe, US and Germany. Ghatam Giridhar Udupa, the Ghatam Player too not less than anybody in the band. He is a winner of All India Radio National Music Festival award held in 1998. Since then he hasn’t look backward of his career but kept winning at various festivals to mark a footstep of Indian contribution to music. Pramath Kiran, the third in number in the percussion group is a musician-cum-singer has been through with the troupe in all the music festivals. The drummer in the troupe Arun Kumar is not less than the rest of the group as he brings the right rhythm and balance to the whole composition of tunes produced by an individual artists.

Speaking on their debut venture in a music festival held in Karnataka during 1997 coming under one name called ‘Layatharanga’, Arun Kumar, the drummer said, ‘We didn’t had any plans to colloborate our music instruments under one platform. But, soon we realized that the rhythm of expression through our instruments was sounded similar and matchable. In one of the music concerts held in Gulf brought us together to share our views whether are we really interested in working in the future projects. During that time not even our title to the collaboration was finalized. When we got green signal from our hearts we sat together and named it as Layatharanga.’ Truly the time in which they sat and exuberated their emotions through their instruments then began a new era of young generation who took part at various concerts crossing seven seas and nations, literally. Now to speak with these same people is like a miracle. They are find not in those enclaves where they used to spend time together but at rich and famous venues where the maestros of music have showcased their original performances to become gurus of music forever.

Ghatam Giridhar Udupa, the Ghatam artist, the brain behind inspiration to the Layatharanga by giving much focus to the troupe by introducing it to various international music festivities said, ‘Before our conglomeration into one I used to go alone to international music festivals and got some rave reviews from the foreign music enthusiasts. But after I realized that without a team the achievement of any sort by an individual is like bubble because it vanishes early. So I was offered by the troupe to join them soon to make it a perfect team of real performers.’ The team then went on playing different tunes through the medium of fusion to get rave accolades from the Indian gurus of music and maestros. Today, hardly the team members find time to spend some good amount of time with their family and friends because they find busy with one or the other music festivals held at international conferences. The problem of finance used to scare them earlier for attending any of the international music festivals is no more making them to venture into new countries and continents. ‘The conscious among the corporate sector has grown immense from the past as they are eager to come with funding our troupe with any amount of finance that we require,’ says Udupa.

Jayachandra Rao, the Mridangam artist in Layatharanga has too share similar opinion. Rao was working with Pt Ravi Shankar, the sitar maestro, in all his music festivals as a supportive Mridangam artist. Feeling the sense of widening his scope individually he joined ‘Layatharanga’ to particpate in various music festivals popularizing his masterity over his instrument. ‘I never really wanted to leave the akada of Pt Ravi Shankarji because he was my ace guru and everything to me. Probably my belonging was with somewhere else so met up with ‘Layatharanga’ to begin a young and energetic band fusionists as soon we met in a music festival in Karnataka.’

Pramath Kiran, the musician and vocalist, is playing a role of back support to the entire troupe in music festivals. Associating himself with the troupe throughout from the first day of music festival to till to this day he says, ‘We are bonded by our music and we just can’t let to this go anyway. We have commitment with our music to not leave it in the half way. We built this platform of youngsters so will it be no matter whatsoever may come. With the grace of the God we are getting adequate finance from all quarter in due support of the troupe. Hope we will continue till the end of our lives.’

The troupe began with a dream of making it as the most successful percussionist team of youngsters and today it has proved by their sheer hard work to withstood among the competition from the senior Karnatic artists. The tradition of youngsters getting to the root is being sowed hope it will yield good fruit in coming days.

Apparently Ganesh came out with second successful musical hit called HUDUGATA wherein his complete makeover to trendy looks gave him another dimension.

Ganesha seems to be heading in a right path with lots of grit and determination in mind. His invincible thirst for producing good films and determination of working hard for films on project have kept him at the top slot in the kannada film industry. Ganesha still isn't perfect in anything with his given films. Because all the stars who stepped into the kannada film industry have given one or the other hit films initially but have failed later in maintaining that pace which could have taken them to fatherly figure in the kannada film industry. Exmaples are in hundreds. No matter what may ever come Ganesha has to orient on his acting to keep his position at No.1 spot.

The wave of acquiring small and medium newspapers has stepped in India with STAR's Rupert Murdoch planning to launch SUN, an english daily, in Tamil Nadu. The rumours to trust the media moghul has plans to launch the new daily in TN initially and later on launching it in all the other metros which are metro based and will explore new opportunities to leave no vacuum for any other publications to make use of it.

So, indigenious newspapers will have to try new experiments inorder to find survival in the cut-throat market dominated by innumerable publications and channels. What does Murdoch has to offer newness to the market? As per the existing SUN in England which caters news based on fashion and glamour has worked a lot among the minds of the natie english tongue readers who are attratcted more to it than to any of the other newspaper which offer more political news than covering glamour and life-style.

Comparing the media scenario in England to Indian soil the opnion of media observers is that any of the publications which hae understood the native pulse of the local minds will obviously clinch the title of getting more readership and also circulation. What if your are a media professional and want to dedicate yourself everyday to bring in new force or energy to make it better everyday. But think of common people who hve been very much dependant everyday on mainstream meedia everyday so much that sometime you start feeling like you are missing something in day to day life with loosing much energy not getting it back.

Think of those early morning fresh news bulletins read in kannada regional television channels and those headlines in english newspapers could always feature to remind the common man that there is a huge gap in the mind that makes him to incline towards something new with almost seducing to go to the market to buy his age old newspapers. Wwll, i have spoken to people of retirement from the government service that they are almost belive in newspaper and magazines to spend most of their time as well as the source of getting more information.

What about our television channels? Though their contribution to the entire commmon man isn't much helpful in bringing enlightenment over the political matters or economical matters yet he believes in the matter that he is almost noting if he hasn forgotten to switch-on the regular news bullettins. So, i think the gap between the expectation of quality from a common man and the qualitative production from the media has made him to start living without it.

Do It Right

All variety of fun shows broadcasted in various english and regional channels are par in their quality and content. No matter how long they stay on the screen they have been successfull in catching attention of the viewers in their own way. Take for example takeshi's castle in POGO during weekdays is a real fun filled reality programme translated version in hind seem to have got a good slot in the television channels. The performers are the real stars here as they try in every episode to reach the goal fixed by the organiser. Commented by Javede Jaffri of Boogie-Woogie fame adds a bit cheer to the entire programme. From beginning till to the end of the programme it is an assured content nobody of any of the viewer will ever feel bored neither watching the reality event nor the borist slapstick, sometimes, conversation from Javed Jaffri.

But the quality of a programme narrated in enlish language in a english channel will obviously clicks in getting over to the mood of a viewer than any of the regional language based channels. Because the true and origianal quality is sometimes depends entirely in the native language and not in translated ones. So, i always prefer to watch programmes in original tounges rather than in translated versions. Ultimately it is left with the choice of any viewer whether he wants to watch it or wants to skip the entire channel.

Better Than Never

What a ridiculous? Well, you wouldn't had said nothing much different than this if you had watched a panel discussion on Udaya Kannada channel last night between 10 to 11. All things went in such a despair that a discussion which was organised on the theme of contribution of Congress and JD(S) to the state politics went for an hour like a friendly talk that takes place in village side. The discussion began with good start but later on as the two traditional enemies began revealing their utter and bitter experiences of both the parties at the national level the programme seemed like nothing much new to offer to the viewers. Why is it then such programmes are organised without much cohersion and balanced sort of compering from the programme production team. What was shown in the programme was like an argument between two rabid dogs which are fighting over the area borders that happens always.

There isn't much to offer in our regional panel discussions because neither there will be any topics to discuss nor the invited guests will have an authenticated opinions to broughtforth to the viewers. Forget the compering personality who never even allows the guests to present their viewes. Such programmes are broadcasted in randomly picked timing that no dog will ever bother to watch it at mid-night. So, what a viewer would arrive to the conclusion will be that the whole affair seemed to be pre-planned or presented in a dramatically at the studio.

Has any of the regional channels have succeeded in bringing popular tv anchors like Tejaswini Ramesh to name a few after her win at the political grounds. Then what are they doing with?. With astrologers and other street-hawkers these regional channels are busy with presenting some old and stale discussions. And we, the regional viwers have no choice but to watch only these discussions which are not worth to it at all. So, the only up bringing will be of the dirty and rotten. So, next time better you think of eating last night's remaining food than to watch these panel discussion in kannada channels. Try it...

The arrival of city centric magazines and their depiction of local heritage are fulfilling a vacum in the minds of readers which was left out without adequtae answers by well-popular magazines before. Though they were concentrated mainly on the living conditions of high class society yet they were circulated among large number of readers with high-end tag prices. The Press Bureau of India does'nt have records to prove the total number of magazines which are circulated in the market because the system of assessing the total numbers seems to have not allowing the process of survey any further. So, what is the fuss all about? yes, the question has an answer in it with carrying no relevance in this modern world without any proper guidelines and direction where the readers are left with no choice but have to pick the same magaines which are picked out by any other idiot who thinks the cover page design and its prices are the real factor playing crucial role in picking the same magazine.

Everytime when you go to a market to pick a magazine obviously you won't ultimately end-up in picking the magazine of you choice but something else attracted by the cover design and the inside glamorous pages.

What are we fed on every morning in our television channels is nothing but the rotten and stinking food of the last night. If you hope to hear some fresh news in the morning news are sterile food and nothing else. Comparing with these morning news bullettings better that we should continue with reading newspapers. An ultmate choice at the bottom after so many picks to thirst for knowledge and information.

What are the news channels are doing then? Are they doing their job of bringing news from all corners to their viewers? I don't think they will possibly see success in the near future also. The main objective of broadcasting a morning news is to sooth the viewers not with hardcore news but soft and entertaining or off-beat stories. And the timing of broadcasting these bullettins will be probably 7-9 and no human will ever in an average rate will desire to see something like Dinakaran sort of happenings. So, our news channels might be in a confusion on what to be brought forth of stories which could begin the trend of beginning a daily event of updated news. Instead of doing this the channels are in an impression that whatever is possible and how much worth of news stories are possible should be filled in the minds of viewers and he should not be let be go away to somewhere else.

Where are they heading?

With the launch of a new kannada entertainment television channel on Saturday the battle of sharing a space in the minds of viewers has become rapid and intensified. The new channel is supposed to be 8th channel after Zee Entertainment launched their kannada version in kannada about three months ago. The viewers of kannada speaking audience has once more been put in a dilemma over the selection of new channels which can be categorised mainly oriented on entertainment, news and music.

The number of kannda channels which have a spotlight on entertainment are Udaya TV, Zee Kannada, Etv Kannada, Chandana and the most recent one is Asianet Suvarna. And the channels oriented on news are TV9, Udaya News and soon to be launched Suvarna News (Asianet). Now, the choice of a good television channel by any viewer would always turn towards either ETV or to Udaya. Zee's most ambitious Kannada has been completely ruined in the hands of its Regional Director Malavika, who thinks only glamour and glitz can upbring the survival of any television channel. If you given a remote in a calm and quiet time which channel would you prefer to go with ? I hope not a single kannada channels that i mentioned above.

Why is it the quality of prdouction in kannada television channels never meets the required standards in the national level. Obviously, the question can be configured in the following points:-

1. The regional language has a very limited number of viewers


2. The investment in a kannada channel doesn't allows to upgrade to national and international standards


3. The existing kannada channels are simply lanuhced to the market without realizing the strategy of the progrrammes


4. The dearth for infotainment among kannada viewers is less when it compared to hindi or english audience


5. As far as the reporters or desk people are concerned they are being choosen on influential grounds rather than their capacities nor their talents


6. The quality of equipments being used to shoot events i e camera, recorders, mics and other micro equipments are either bought in second hand service or provided with poor quality operations

The list is endless. Almost all of the employees working at all leveles in the above mentioned channels share this same opinion. Even the selection of superior level positions are also done based on the influential grounds but not on their professional expertise in the same field. So, thats why every time when a new entertainment or news channel is launched the concept would be either taken from a national channels or will be a mix of international and national channels.
